Egg Drop Syndrome

Duck Adenovirus 1

Egg drop syndrome (EDS) is a reproductive condition characterized by the laying of soft-shelled and shell-less eggs in otherwise healthy female birds. EDS is caused by an adenovirus which is prevalent in many wild and domestic ducks and geese. Often, the first sign of infection is a change in the color of the egg, quickly followed by production of shell-less and soft-shelled eggs.
